Just Add Water

A new pallet arrived yesterday
dry nuggets of pigment
nestled in plastic tubs

I run my finger across the top
Nothing moves
Nothing happens
My finger remains dry
colorless
I cannot use the paints like this
without a fundamental change
in form
in essence
solid to liquid
dense to loose and flowy
change from taking in water
